Short answer
Why is a marketplace laid out mobile-first?
Most marketplace traffic arrives on a phone, and the buying decision is made on the listing screen. The marketplace interface was therefore laid out at phone width first: product card, price and delivery information placed to be read on one screen, with filters moved to a separate layer. The desktop layout is that same set of decisions, widened.
Key takeaways
- In a marketplace the decision is made on the listing screen, not the product page, which makes the card the most critical surface.
- Filters must not crowd the listing; left inline on a phone they halve the area the products get.
